Entries from April 2007

I’ve always loved these Warhol-style portraits. When I first saw them, I knew I had to get one - I was so excited when I found out I could sell them through Stork. The first one I ordered (pictured above) is a 3 panel 24″ x 10″ of my son Dex when he was about 8 months old. I gave it to my dad for his 60th birthday. Since then, I’ve helped friends and other clients produce adorable pop art of their little ones and other family members (furry family members included).
One of the great features is that you can opt to select a colour scheme - from neutrals to brights… I specified pastels for the one above.
My best friend Lisa got one of her son Sam and it was printed in bright colours on canvas. It looks so upscale and goes great in their contemporary home.
I was just selling these via phone with only very little info available online - until this week. You can now order these prints directly from the Stork website’s Baby’s Room/Wall Art section and all prices are in CDN dollars (think cheaper for Americans and easier for Canadians!)
I hope you enjoy them as much as do…

This week I have sold a record number of “Name Your Tune” CDs… and best of all, most of the orders came from repeat buyers who are purchasing for jealous siblings or other friends. These personalized children’s music compilations are so great; my 17 month old son Dexter’s favourite song is “Little Dexter had a farm” - his dancing is getting more expressive every time he listens to the music - and he loves hearing his name. The best part is the variety of names they have - Dexter is not one of the top 20 so it’s usually hard to find anything with his name on it (or in this case in it).
The price point on this product is also amazing - $20 CDN… for a personalized gift that can be enjoyed daily the price is so right!
If you happen to have this CD - I would love to have your comments on it!
Here’s the official description from the Stork website:
Name Your Tune, an iParenting Media award winner, is an exciting new children’s music compilation that is made-to-order and personalized for each child. A great way to enjoy music, have fun, and learn together!

One of the great things about having cool friends is they get your kid cool stuff. One of those gifts we’ve received is Mary Jane socks from Trumpette. They come in a box of six pairs of little socks that make your baby look like she has little Mary Jane shoes on. And the great thing about them, they’re only for girls (note from Stork: There are really cute Trumpette socks for boys too - like camo and high top sneaker look-a-like Johnny’s). Trumpette is one of a seemingly endless amount of online baby boutique stores, specializing in (of all things) socks. And why not? As any new dad finds out, baby socks are almost impossible to keep on, so it’s not like you could never use another pair.
Pink is for girls, blue is for boys. It was that kind of traditional attitude towards babies that this modern day dad was hell bent on challenging. That is, before I actually had the child. Now that I have a girl, I now realize that pink is for girls, and every other color is for boys. Because all babies pretty much look the same, whenever we go out and I’ve got Madame in something other than pink, at least one stranger will tell me what a cute boy I have. Or that “he” is such a good sleeper. And the strange thing is I never thought I would react so negatively to these innocent comments. Usually I just let it go, but inside I’m thinking “ARGHH. SHE’S A GIRL NOT A BOY.” It’s now gotten to the point that I don’t want to take her out unless she’s got on at least something pink.
Besides pink I did find another way to clue people in on her gender, the “I’m Not A Boy” snapsuit from Wry Baby. I guess there’s always the baby headband, but I’m a firm believer that, even if it’s camo, headbands just don’t look good on (practically) bald people.

It’s official - I can now spend so much more time with both my son and my business (oh yeah, and my husband too).
Today I told my boss that I will be leaving at the end of April. As we are expecting a baby at the beginning of September, this will give me four months of summer enjoyment.
I’m officially going to be a WAHM. Woo hoo!
To celebrate, I decided to upgrade my cafepress Stork Designs stores to a premium store so all my designs can be found in one place; also, I find it’s easier for my customers from the U.S… what fun this is!
